Short description

Emissions from storage cover all refinery products. According to the EMEP guidebook, fuel-related emissions are reported under 1.B.2. (see Chapter 3., 1.B.2.a Oil ). Emissions from other mineral oil products that are not used as fuel (like naphtha, methanol etc.) are reported separately here. Based on the research project result, this category also includes the cleaning of storage tanks for crude oil and petroleum product and transport container tanks.

Method

A distinction of mineral oil products is only made between fuels and naphtha. The evaluation of several research projects has led to new findings. The calculation methods and emission factors are published in a separate publication 1).

Activity data

The annual production of naphtha through the time series is listed in Table 1 below.

Emission factors

The emission factors are published in a separate publication (Böttcher, 2025)2).

Recalculations

Based on the results of the above mentioned research project, recalculations were performed, which are shown in the following publication (Böttcher, 2025)3).

For pollutant-specific information on recalculated emission estimates for Base Year and 2023, please see the pollutant specific recalculation tables following chapter 9.1 - Recalculations.

Planned improvements

At the moment, no category-specific improvements are planned.
